Confucianism Morality and Confucius - 1356 Words

Explain Confucius’s diagnosis of the problem(s) of human nature. What is his prescription? Do you think it’s a good one? If you agree, explain why? After studying the Confucius theory of human nature, my outlook and view on many things have either been changed or at least question. I am left to wonder how being born into this belief system may impact an individual views of themselves, and the world around them. Overall Confucianism is a very practical belief system. Confucius seemed very optimistic about humans, in that the species could be improved if they trusted his knowledge. He offered explanations for the problems in the world, all of the unjust burdens and the suffering. Basically, if we are not aware of humanity’s perfect models, we would lack the ability, and perhaps the motive to become one. Benevolence is not practiced among humans was the finial flaw Confucius diagnosed. People are not compassionate or empathic to others as they should be. And therefore society writhes. Confucius suggested a very important rule: â€Å"A benevolent man helps others to take their stand in so far as he himself wishes to take his stand.† Essentially, we must do to others as we would want done ourselves, or the negative form; do not do to others what we would not want done to ourselves. Once again, the self-discipline principle shines through. Confucius was confident these principles would diminish much of the pain in the world. Although I do not agree with all aspects of the Confucian theories of human nature, I do tend to agree generally with the diagnoses on what’s wrong with us. Firstly there is no doubt humans tend to be selfish, have a lack of respect for family and people of higher authority, and â€Å"roles† are often not followed , in turn affecting society. For example, in my opinion much like Confucius’s, a mother should be nurture, a care giver to her child, putting the child before herself. Often we hear about mothers who will put partying, drinking, drug use and dating before their child. Critical Analysis of Deaths Waiting List Essay

In the article â€Å"Death’s Waiting List† Sally Satel argues that the sale of organs should be allowed in the U.S. She hopes to convince the reader that the only guarantee of getting a transplant is to skip the wait list and just buy one. Although Satel makes a good argument she seems very biased and provides biased evidence to support her claims. Satel claims that there is a problem with organ donations. In order to prove this she begins her argument by stating that the wait for a kidney in a big city, â€Å"is five to eight years and expected to double by 2010.†(2) Well, it is now 2012 and it still takes the same amount of time to get a kidney transplant. She rejects the Institute of medicine’s â€Å"frustrating report.† She says that instead of issuing the report as â⠂¬Å"Organ Donation: Opportunities for Action.† they should have subtitled it,â€Å"Recommendations for Inaction.† This sounds very unethical. She then explains that it is a new initiative which expands donor eligibility to patients who died of cardiac arrest. She says, â€Å"organs now can only be retrieved from those who suffer brain death.†(9) At first she agrees that it is a decent idea because more people die of heart failure than brain death, but then she says that supply will still fall short of need. It seems as if she felt threatened by this proposal and she just had to mention it so she could bash it in her article. To make matters worse, her counter argument also sounds very weak compared to the proposal. She provides no evidence to back up her claim. Why will it fall short of need? Satel fails to mention this evidence to back up her claim. It is very unfair of her. Satel mentions but ignores the European Incentive, â€Å"Presumed Consent†(10) it basically considers citizens donors at death unless they sign an anti-donor (or opt-out) card. It curbs off the need to store huge amounts of data and programs on a local desktop storage and instead provides a larger memory space for storage on cluster of remote computers and or servers. According to Kavis (2014), typically, there are four types of scenarios where cloud storage is used. They are as follows: IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service): The service providers manages large sets of digital resources. They use virtualization to intelligently use these resources in order to build an ad-hoc system for the customer to rely on. This is a service-based scenario. This include servers, networks, and storage modules and so on. PaaS (Platform as a Service): Clouds may also provide a platform for the clients to build and execute their applications on. This is done by providing an additional abstraction level. SaaS (Software as a Service): Software and applications are meant to run on these cloud servers (Paraiso et al 2012). StaaS (Storage as a Service): This facilitates the cloud applications to scale beyond their server limits. This is what allows users to store their data in remote memory locations with the key to access them at any time and from anywhere. Cloud storage is meant to fulfill tons of client side information about performance, reliability and data consistency (Martini and Choo 2013). A brief history of Cloud Storage Joseph Carl Robnett Licklider is known to have invented the cloud storage technology back in the 1960s. He developed this technology while working on the ARPNET network architecture, in order to connect humans with data from anywhere and everywhere (Vibhute 2017). However, debates about the acceptability of cloud-based services over the traditional or local server-based storage have always been in the news. Below, the advantages and disadvantages of adapting to the cloud based storage shall be discussed in order to throw some light over the right uses of it. Methodology Methodology is the theoretical and systematic analysis of the methods applied to any study of field. It defines the methods adapted towards to researching on a particular topic and listing down the finding from it. Advantages of using Cloud Storage The advantages of using cloud storage are as follows: Cost and Maintenance: Cloud storage helps to cut back on the budget allocated for data storage. It is much cheaper than implementing any in-house hosting or storage solution. Moreover, it also takes off the burden of the maintenance cost from the respective individual or company. Large business organizations are not needed to build nad maintain huge servers for storing their data. Accessibility: As it has been thoroughly stated in the earlier sections, cloud storage allows file access from any place in the world. The data stored in the cloud is always just a click away for its respective owner. A stable internet access and the valid identity credentials facilitates remote access of the data (Cao et al 2012). While the advantages of adapting to a cloud storage technology are vast, however, the disadvantages sometimes demean the quality of it. Nevertheless, it is the duty of the hosting company to ensure that the security measures are tight and of the correct standards, but however, a dilemma exists in the minds of the data owners of whether to trust them in the process. This is a crucial step that every company or individual must take before leveraging their data to the hosting service providers. To excel in their services, the hosting companies must as well upgrade their customer support facilities. However, for individuals this might be a simple option to simply backup their important files and data, keeping in mind the purchasing prices of cloud hosting services. Conclusion The report helps to conclude that cloud storage, since the day it was invented have had its eyes set to conquer the data storage facilities. Cloud technology also offers enormous data storage capabilities to any individual or company. This enables the ability to store boundless quantity of data and perform big data analysis. Annual evaluations and contracts with a clear compensation plan should be used to stop things like this. Pay policies are often attached to particular jobs rather than tailored entirely to individual employees (noe, 2012). This is also another contributing factor that should have been used to prevent fraudulent use of the the program and prevent a negative view from the employees. Ive quickly learned that compensation is one of the hardest things to determine for HRM. There is no set way determine it. Luckily pay policies and laws make it a little easier to keep from going to the wayside.

Varying load, speed, and temperature conditions require adjustability of fuel delivery, and that is accomplished through changes to injector pulse width. For example, studies conducted by various researchers (e.g. Arnett, 1996; North Hargreaves, 2008; Schwartz Fouts, 2003) uncovered that American adolescents did not just listen to music approximately two and a half hours per day, rather than also how they vigorously employ music to satisfy social, emotional and developmental requirements. However, according to Walker Kennedy (2010), the impact of popular music has sparked many debates. Particularly over the past decade, numerous news stories have claimed that bands like Marilyn Manson or Slipknot have negatively influenced the shooters at Columbine (US)/Erfurt (Germany) or that suicidal connotations in rock/metal music has led to an increase in adolescence taking/trying to take their lives (Walker Kennedy, 2010). According to Walker Kennedy (2010), much research has been conducted on why adolescents listen to music and in short two main reasons can be noted: to explore identity issues including self-identity and peer relationships as well as regulation of emotional impulses. And although various themes of different music genres heavy metal lyrics often deal with hostility or vengeance and may contain sex, drug use, suicide, and alienation references (Arnett, 1996); rap lyrics are full of offensive language combined with subjects like sex, drug use, misogyny, violence (Epstein, Pratto, Sk ipper, 1990); pop music lyrics deal with a multitude of themes and typically reach a larger audience; and country music often tells a story that either deals with love; sadness; rebellious behavior, promiscuity, or betrayal (Ballard, Bazzini, Dodson, 1999) – can, according to Ter Bogt (2012), encourage listeners to interpreted these themes, particularly the negative ones, as cool, socially acceptable, satisfying, and not particularly destructive, it should be recognized that lyrics are merely one aspect of a song’s overall message. Unfortunately many studies limit themselves by only looking at one characteristics of a specific song, rather than also addressing that others, like the â€Å"sound† of the music or the associated broader cultural factors, can have obvious and powerful effects on how one interprets its meaning (Ter Bogt et al., 2012). For example, listeners preferring a particular genre often do not just listen to the music itself, rather than also have an understanding for the reputation of those genres and show familiarity regarding the lifestyles of musicians within them. As Ter Bogt et al. (2012) noted, given that an individual’s development is shaped by the observation of others, relevant behaviors portrayed by high-status people such as rock stars, may encourage adolescents to mimic it. However, due to the fact that numerous musicians have had encounters with the law over their drug/alcohol use and many even have died because of it, claiming that specific music genres only glamori ze or encourage drug us/abuse seems like a biased representation. How true this is can be seen when taking a closer look at the history of music lyrics, particular those of rock/hard rock/metal/heavy metal bands. According to Dodge (2004), rock songs of the 80s were party anthems with a positive attitude towards the motto sex, drugs, and rock n roll. However, during the 90s rock music lyrics became more critical. Exaggeratedly spoken, most of the music sounded whinny/moaning and the lyrics contained messages about how bad everything was (Dodge, 2004). Today, according to Dodge (2004), the dark elements still exist, but a new wave of album oriented/melodic rock and heavy metal bands has emerged. On the other hand, heavy metal emerged during the late 60s, yet, according to Hjelm, Kahn-Harris, and LeVine (2012), did not establish itself as a separate genre until the late 70s/early 80s when bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden set forth basic metal characteristics (distorted guitars, aggressive vocals, dark clothing, etc.) that are present to this day. Throughout the following decades (90s until today), metal has followed increasingly diverse musical pathways and has created numerous influential bands. And although the central concept for producing rock/hard rock/metal/heavy metal songs remains the same, a shift of song themes and in which kind of way they are communicated to the listener can be seen. According to Dodge (2009), drug reference in rock/metal songs have always been numerous and recurrent. However, according to Markert (2001), this does not mean that such songs praise or encourage the exploitation of drugs. Most drug representations, particularly those of more r ecent rock/metal tracks, are rather negative and these songs often do not instruct, lecture or admonish the listener, according to Dodge (2009), rather than they inform about possible results, rely on personal responsibility, and leave it up to the individual to make their own decisions. Moreover, since songs about drug use/abuse are again and again associated with a particular time frame and/or social group, they do not just reflect the principles of that group rather than also operate as a socializing instrument by suggesting how listeners should interpret their social surroundings (Markert, 2001). The truthfulness of this view can be seen when either rock/hard rock/metal/heavy metal songs of different decades are compared with each or when the lyrics/themes of the more recent ones are compared with other genres. Many themes of the older rock/metal songs (l960s – 1990s), with all sub- and hybrid genres considered, concentrated on the usage and the effects of drugs, while notions of caution or resulting negative consequences were rarely mentioned. For example, during the 60s songs like â€Å"Heroin† by The Velvet Underground (1967) or â€Å"Mothers little Helper† by The Rolling Stones (1966), told the listener how drugs alter emotional states and claimed that the end result – with an overall positive notion was to either be able to not care about anything anymore: â€Å"Cause it makes me feel like Im a man/when I put a spike into my vein†¦Cause when the smack begins to flow/And I really dont care anymore/Ah, when that heroin is in my blood/And that blood is in my head/Then thank God that Im as good as dead/And thank your God that Im not aware/And thank God that I just dont care†¦Ã¢â‚¬  or manage everyday’s tasks: â€Å"Mother needs something today to calm her down/And though shes not really ill/Theres a little yellow pill/She goes running for the shelter of a mothers little helper/And it helps her on her way, gets her through her busy day.† In the 70s, a similar trend could be seen, where songs about drugs yet again mainly describe the addictive properties of drugs or even glorify them. In his song â€Å"For Your Life† Led Zeppelin (1976), for example, illustrates how a drug user surrenders to his/her addiction: â€Å"You said I was the only†¦/Exhibition is your habit, Emotion second hand/Had to pull away to save me, Maybe next time around/And she said, dont you want it?/Dont you want coca-coca-cocaine?/Hadnt planned to, could not stand to try it†¦Ã¢â‚¬  and in their song â€Å"Snowblind† the Band Black Sabbath goes even further in glorifying the use of cocaine: â€Å"Feeling happy in my vein/Icicles within my brain (cocaine)/†¦Makes me happy, makes me cold†¦Dont you think I know what Im doing/Dont tell me that its doing me wrong/Youre the one whos really a loser/This is where I feel I belong.† In the 80s, however, some bands began to question In the past decade, most singer/songwriters in the rock/hard rock/metal/heavy metal genre have shifted their attention to not just on expressing how bad the usage of harmful/illegal substances is, rather than also their negative consequences. For example, in their song â€Å"Adios,† the band Rammstein (2009) did not just describe how a person injects a substance in their veins (â€Å"He lays the needle in the vein, asks the music to come inside†) and how this person feels while the substance travels through his entire body (â€Å"a battle rages in his blood, an army marches through his bowel†), rather than also address their often fatal attributes by closing the song with the words: â€Å"He takes the needle from the vein, the melody travels out of the skin, violins burn with shrieking, harps cut the flesh, he has opened his eyes, but he did not wake up.† A similar, yet less obvious approach to remind the listener about the highly destructive attributes of illegal substances, has been taken by the band Slipknot, who in their 2014 released song â€Å"Killpop† describe how a women injects something into her skin (â€Å"she is sticking needles in her skin†)  recently the song Habits (Stay High) has topped the charts, where the singer Tove Lo (2012) argues that dealing with emotional pain can only be achieved via a continuing high to not be missing a lost love (→ â€Å"Spend my days locked in a haze, trying to forget you babe†¦Got to stay high all my life, to forget Im missing you†). Other examples include: â€Å"We can’t stop† by Miley Cyrus (2013), where she sings → â€Å"we like to party, dancing with Molly (which is a reference to the drug MDMA), doing whatever we want;† â€Å"Rehab† by Amy Winehouse (2007), in which she states that → â€Å"they tried to mak e me go to rehab but I said: no, no, no, yes, Ive been black but when I come back youll know, know, know,†¦, hes tried to make me go to rehab but I wont go, go, go;† or â€Å"Diamonds† by Rihanna (2012), where she clearly downplays the destructive properties of alcohol (moonshine) and drugs (molly, which is a street name for MDMA and ecstasy) when she sings â€Å"we’ll never die† → â€Å"you’re a shooting star I see, a vision of ecstasy†Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬  Palms rise to the universe, as we moonshine and molly, feel the warmth, we’ll never die, we’re like diamonds in the sky.† References Dodge, A. Including an Assistant Store Manager, Operation Manager, Senior Sales Representative and Key holder, which is a senior representative that can perform al the duties above and act as the manager on duty when there is no manager around. I am going to explain some of the delegated duties of each position. The assistant store manger: Coach, develop and prepare sales team to meet and exceed defined sales, retention, quality, and service objectives. Manages the daily activities of all store staff, including sales, customer service, and inventory control. Design and implement initiatives and methods/procedures that will drive customer perception of company as the market leader in the wireless industry. The operation manager: responsible for managing and maintaining all inventory within the retail store, including phones, accessories, parts, and marketing materials; ensure physical and cycle count inventories are accurate and equipment is ready for issue on a first-in, first-out basis. The senior sales representative: serves as a multi-skilled member of the retail sales team. This position serves in a leadership capacity by meeting and exceeding sales and retention objectives.
